Tracking Your Campaign Success With Google Adwords Metrics
As the saying goes “What you can measure you can manage”. Tracking your campaign and ad performance is crucial to achieving a good return on your investment in Google Adwords. We can produce a monthly management report containing the following key performance indicators.
- Placement / Keyword Performance - Performance data for keywords or placements you've specifically targeted.
- Ad Performance - Performance data for each of your ads.
- Ad Group Performance - Ad group performance data for one or more of your campaigns.
- Campaign Performance - Performance data for your campaigns if you have multiple campaigns.
Google Analytics For Website Results Tracking
When Adwords reporting and Google Analytics are combined, you get rich insights into your website traffic patterns and website effectiveness. Analytic insights drive better targeted ads, and better landing page design to create higher sales conversions.
The diagram below shows the Analytics Funnel process which tracks a visitors progress as they navigate through from an Adwords ad to your landing page, and through to a sale. By tracking each visitor you can see where they go, and at what stage they abandon the site. Using the information you can identify any problem pages that require redesign or additional information. In order to track visitors and gather this information JavaScript code is placed on the appropriate pages.

When funnel pages and goals are used you can accurately measure the return on your Adwords budget by assigning a $ value to each goal. This allows you to compare campaigns, ad groups, ad and keywords.
Track Other Online Marketing Campaigns
While Google Analytics is designed to work seamlessly with their Adwords service, Analytics can be used to track and analyse any online advertising promotional activity. For example: newsletters, emails, banner, other cpc advertising and marketing campaigns. By inserting the tracking code you can measure the campaigns performance.
